English ⬇️ – En 2022, lorsque je confirmai le retour du “Tournoi provincial” en 2023 à la Coopérative Le Dallo de Chicoutimi, Tony Brocoli ne fit ni une ni deux lors de son inscription et il ajouta Dave à son équipe malgré la maladie qui l’affectait à l’époque… parce que, un cancer, ça peut se guérir. Malheureusement, Dave n’a pu effectuer son retour sur les allées, car la maladie eut le dessus. Je me fis donc un devoir de lui rendre hommage lors de la présentation de la première édition de ce qui devint le Challenge printanier.
Le “Tournoi provincial Classique Walter Rossignol” prit naissance au Salon 600 sur la rue Lafontaine (avec ses deux étages de six allées). C’est là que, p’tit gars, j’ai connu Dave. Ses coéquipiers de l’époque étaient Frank Buffa, Marcel Paradis et Juan Roquebert. Imaginez voir cette gang-là débarquer à Rivière-du-Loup… c’était comme la PBA pour nous. Dave impressionnait par son lancer puissant. Avec le recul, il avait des airs de Mark Roth. Sur les allées, il avait un air sévère. Possiblement parce qu’il était concentré comme dix, comme si la seule raison de vivre était de gagner les grands honneurs.
Puis, j’ai grandi. En 1992, le Salon 600 prit place sur le boulevard Cartier avec ses 18 allées ultra-modernes à l’époque. Dave y était tout le temps. Et, en 1998, j’ai joué mon premier “Provincial”. Tranquillement, j’ai appris à connaître Dave en lui parlant avec mon meilleur anglais. C’est là que j’ai découvert le Dave généreux, attentionné et souriant. C’était un gentleman, un vrai, un homme de coeur.
Lors de ses dernières apparitions à Rivière-du-Loup, il fit équipe avec Tony Brocoli, Anthony Skitt et Daniel Skitt… une équipe pas piquée des vers. Malgré sa cinquantaine, il était toujours aussi redoutable sur les allées. J’aurais aimé qu’il ait l’opportunité de nous offrir sa présence une dernière fois. Mais, qu’importe, la communauté des quilles se souviendra à jamais de lui.

In 2022, when I confirmed the return of the “Tournoi provincial” in 2023 at the Coopérative Le Dallo of Chicoutimi, Tony Brocoli didn’t hesitate a second when signing up as he added Dave to his team despite the illness that was affecting him at the time… because, cancer can be cured after all, isn’t it? Unfortunately, Dave was unable to make his return on the lanes, as the illness got the better of him. Therefore, I made it a point to pay tribute to him during the first edition of what became the Challenge printanier.
The “Tournoi provincial – Classique Walter Rossignol” was born at the Salon 600 on Lafontaine Street (with its two floors of six lanes). It was there that, as a kid, I met Dave. His teammates at the time were Frank Buffa, Marcel Paradis, and Juan Roquebert. Imagine seeing these guys arriving in Rivière-du-Loup… it was like the PBA for us. Dave impressed with his powerful approach. In hindsight, he had a bit of a Mark Roth vibe. On the lanes, he had a serious look. Possibly because he was as focused as ten men, as if the only reason to live was to win the championship.
Then, I grew up. In 1992, the Salon 600 moved down to Cartier Boulevard with its 18 ultra-modern lanes at the time. Dave was there all the time. And, in 1998, I competed in my first “Provincial.” Slowly, I got to know Dave by speaking to him in my best English. That is when I discovered the generous, caring, and smiling Dave. He was a gentleman, a real one, a man of heart.
During his last appearances in Rivière-du-Loup, he teamed up with Tony Brocoli, Anthony Skitt, and Daniel Skitt… a team not to be sneezed at. Despite being in his fifties, he was still just as good on the lanes. I would have liked for him to have the opportunity to be with us one last time. But, no matter, the bowling community will remember him forever.

Anthony Carrier
English ⬇️ – Anthony Carrier, je le connais depuis belle lurette. Ça date d’une finale régionale des Jeux du Québec où j’étais ambassadeur pour Chaudière-Appalaches. On parle de janvier 2010. Rapidement, j’ai vu un potentiel immense en ce jeune quilleur. D’ailleurs, il fallait être aveugle pour ne pas réaliser qu’il allait accomplir de grands exploits tout au long de sa carrière.
En mai 2012, il réussit à se tailler une place une place au sein de l’équipe canadienne junior aux côtés de Kevin Maurice, François Lavoie et Mitch Hupé. Ensemble, ils participèrent aux Championnats PABCON à Puerto Rico à l’été 2013. Anthony et Kevin mirent la main sur le bronze en double à quelques quilles seulement de la première marche du podium.
Peu de temps après, soit en 2014, je lui proposai de joindre mon équipe du “Provincial” et, encore aujourd’hui, nous chérissons ce rêve de mettre la main sur le gros trophée. Dès sa première année, il goûta à la finale de la Division A et, en 2015, il gagna le convoité Challenge individuel.
Tout au long de sa carrière, Anthony représenta la région de la Capitale-Nationale à de multiples reprises lors des Championnats provinciaux et il participa également à quelques Championnats canadiens en portant les couleurs du Québec.
Or, la raison qui me fit lui rendre hommage en 2023 lors du Challenge printanier fut les deux parties parfaites qu’il réalisa au tournoi des essais canadiens de la FCDQ au Laurentian Lanes de Montréal en janvier de la même année. Ce bloc-là, il domina le patron court. J’étais affairé à mes tâches professionnelles lors de son premier 300. Je peux vous dire que j’étais amèrement déçu de ne pas avoir été témoin de cet exploit. Un peu plus tard, j’ai pu me rendre derrière sa paire d’allées et la magie opéra une fois de plus ; Anthony lança douze boulets de canon et ça y était.
Dès lors, j’ai milité pour que son exploit fut reconnu à titre de record canadien. Peu de temps après, on me confirma l’homologation de son record. De connivence avec sa mère, j’ai fait expédié secrètement sa plaque, sa bague et son certificat chez moi afin de partager cette grande nouvelle avec les participants et la foule du Challenge printanier. Ce fut une réussite, car Anthony n’avait jamais douté de cette présentation spéciale.
Anthony, je suis fier d’être ton coéquipier, mais, encore plus que tout, d’être ton ami.

I’ve known Anthony Carrier for a long time. It goes back to a regional final of the Jeux du Québec where I was an ambassador for the Chaudière-Appalaches region. We’re talking about January 2010. Quickly, I saw immense potential in this young bowler. In fact, you would have to be blind not to realize that he was going to accomplish great feats throughout his career.
In May 2012, he managed to secure a spot on the Youth Team Canada alongside Kevin Maurice, François Lavoie and Mitch Hupé. Together, they participated in the PABCON Championships in Puerto Rico in the summer of 2013. Anthony and Kevin took home the bronze in doubles, just a few pins away from the top of the podium.
Shortly after, in 2014, I asked him to join my team at the “Provincial” and, still today, we cherish this dream of getting our hands on the big trophy. On his first year, he experienced the Division A final. In 2015, he won the coveted Individual Challenge.
Throughout his career, Anthony represented the Capitale-Nationale region multiple times at the Provincial Championships and he also participated in a few Canadian Youth Championships wearing the colors of Quebec.
Now, the reason that made me pay him tribute during the 2023 Challenge printanier was the two perfect games he bowled at the CTF Team Trials at Laurentian Lanes in Montreal in January 2023. In that set, he dominated the short pattern. I was busy with work when he shot his first 300. I can tell you that I was bitterly disappointed not to have witnessed that achievement. A little later, I was able to go behind his pair of lanes and the magic happened once again; Anthony rolled twelve strikes and there it was.
From then on, I campaigned for his achievement to be recognized as a Canadian record. Shortly after, I was informed of the ratification of his record. In agreement with his mother, I secretly had his plaque, his ring and his certificate sent to my home in order to share this great news with the competitors and the crowd at the Challenge printanier. It was a success, because Anthony had never doubted this special presentation.
Anthony, I am proud to be your teammate, but even more than anything, to be your friend.

Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse
English ⬇️ – En 2023, Vanessa avait de grandes aspirations sportives. Après un hiatus de six ans, elle décida de se remettre en forme, de remonter dans un ring de boxe et de croire en son potentiel de devenir championne du monde. Son objectif vint à terme le 7 mars 2024 alors qu’elle mit la main sur la ceinture de la WBC à Montréal devant les siens.
Connaissant toute la fougue qui l’habitait, il était impératif de la présenter à la foule afin qu’elle reçoive l’appui du public québécois dans cette quête d’excellence. D’ailleurs, son chum, Jeff Dufour, avait trouvé une boule de quilles transparent avec le gant de boxe et la signature de Sugar Ray Leonard. On profita du moment pour la lui remettre.
Aujourd’hui, cette boxeuse au coeur tendre, qui oeuvra à titre d’éducatrice à la petite enfance, offre ses services de coaching sportif et de massothérapie. Elle continue de s’entraîner en vue d’un retour dans l’arène et d’une nouvelle chance de se battre pour un titre mondial.

In 2023, Vanessa had big athletic aspirations. After a six-year hiatus, she decided to get back in shape, step back into a boxing ring and believe in her potential to become a world champion. Her goal came to reality on March 7th, 2024, when she grabbed the WBC belt in Montreal in front of her loved ones.
Knowing all the fire that lived within her, it was imperative to present her to the crowd so that she would receive the support of the Quebec public in her quest for excellence. Moreover, her boyfriend, Jeff Dufour, had found a transparent bowling ball with a boxing glove and Sugar Ray Leonard’s signature. We took advantage of the moment to give it to her.
Today, this tender-hearted boxer, who worked as a child educator, offers her services in sports coaching and massage therapy. She continues to train for a return to the ring and a new chance to fight for a world title.
Congratulations Vanessa! Keep inspiring us. We all look forward to seeing your braids again. 😉🥊 #TeamVany
